Season 2020 - Laws of the Game Update

Mid 2019 saw the International Football Association Board (IFAB) complete changes to the Laws of the Game. In conjunction with the

Elizabeth and Districts Referees Assocaition and EDJSA Modified referees will see there introduction in the 2020 season.

Please see attached below a IFAB document outling the summary of the main changes for season 2020.

This season will see changes to the following Laws and how they will be used in the upcoming 2020 season.

Law Change Use in Season 2020
  • Dropped Ball (Laws 8 + 9)
  • Used as outlined in Laws of the Game across all age groups
  • Free Kicks (Law 13)
  • Used as outlined in Laws of the Game across all age groups
  • Goal celebrations (Law 12)
  • Used as outlined in Laws of the Game across all age groups
  • Goal Kick (Law 16)
  • Used as outlined in Laws of the Game (U9-18 Age Groups)
  • U6-8 will remain the same
  • Handball (Law 12)
  • Used as outlined in Laws of the Game across all age groups
  • Kick-Off (Law 8)
  • Used as outlined in Laws of the Game across all age groups
  • Medical Breaks (Law 7)
  • Used as outlined in Laws of the Game across all age groups
  • Penalty Kick (Law 14)
  • Used as outlined in Laws of the Game for U9-18 Age Groups only
  • Player's Equipment (Law 4)
  • Used as outlined in Laws of the Game across all age groups
  • Quick free kick and YC/RC (Law 12)
  • Used as outlined in Laws of the Game across all age groups
  • Substitutes (Law 3)
  • Substitues will remain as season 2019 across all age groups
  • Team Officials (Laws 5 + 12)
  • YC - Caution or RC - Sending Off will be delivered by the referee through the Home Team Ground Marshall and card shown to Technical Area
